A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed over the death of a man from Red Deer. Jason Doan died after being shot with a Taser in August 2006 according to the report. The wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by his parents, sister, and daughter, and seeks over one and a half million dollars.

Twenty eight year old Doan is said to have been smashing vehicle windows in an alley when the police were called, and apparently following a short chase one of the officers fired his Taser. After being shot Doan went into a three week coma, after which he died.

The lawsuit names RCMP members and the manufacturer of the stun gun as defendants. A civilian who is said to have been involved in the incident has also been named as a defendant in the lawsuit, as has the David Thompson Health Region, the Red Deer Regional Hospital, two doctors and two paramedics.

According to the lawsuit excessive force was used when the arrest was made, although no allegations have been proven as yet and no statement of defence have yet been filed.
