Manufacturer, Rock Tenn, is being sued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over allegations of sexual harassment. It is being claimed that the firm violated federal law by allowing female employees to be sexually harassed by a male co-worker.
An official from the commission said that an investigation had been carried out, and evidence showed that from January of last year a female employee had been subjected to touching, sexual comments, and requests for sexual favours from a male co-worker.
The commission stated: “She talked to her employers, and they failed to correct it. Because they failed to protect her, she was forced to resign. After that, she filed a charge of discrimination with the EEOC. That gives us the ability to conduct an investigation.”
It was also discovered during the investigation that other female employees had also been subjected to this type of sexual harassment from the same male co-worker. The commission went on to state: “After the investigation we decided it was an appropriate case for the EEOC to file a lawsuit on, on behalf of the women still there and the one forced to resign.”
