The production company that is responsible for bringing shows such as the hit talent show American Idol to our screens is being hit with a lawsuit filed by former employees who claim to have been forced to work for long stretches of time without any breaks or overtime pay.
Former employees have filed the lawsuit against Fremantle Media North America, and the lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The employees involved in the lawsuit claim to have been forced to work for up to twenty hours at a time without any breaks or overtime payments.
An attorney for the plaintiffs said: There’s no Hollywood glamour for the below-the-line people who work on American Idol and other reality shows who are grossly underpaid, worked 24/7 and receive no rest or meal breaks and no health coverage – contrary to California labour laws.”
The lawsuit also claimed that Fremantle Media and other coampnies associated with it used a ‘fraudulent scheme’ to try and conceal the fact that their employees were made to work such long hours with pay or breaks.
