Parents File Lawsuit Over Daughter’s Death

The parents of a seventeen year old girl that died during an equestrian event have filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages. The lawsuit has been filed against the United States Equestrian Federation and the United States Eventing Association.
The parents of Mia Eriksson claim that the safety measures for the event were not adequate enough because the organisers and governing body wanted to make the event more exciting for spectators to watch. Mia died after her horse fell during the event.
The lawsuit claims wrongful death due to the negligence of the defendants. It claims that the lack of safety measures was in part to blame for Mia’s death. Many have claimed that the event is too dangerous, and a number of participants have died in the past year and a half.
Mia’s mother said: “Mia for the U.S.E.A. is a statistic, but she is really so much more than that. I stepped forward to file a lawsuit trying to voice in a way all of the concerns we’re feeling at the level of eventing to press for change.”
