A woman has sued an online dating service after claiming that it discriminated against sexual minorities. The woman, from Northern California, filed the lawsuit against eHarmony earlier in the week. She stated that the online dating site discriminates against bisexuals, gays, and lesbians.
According to Linda Carlson she was not able to use the Internet dating site in February simply because of her sexual orientation. According to the lawsuit, Carlson then wrote in to the dating site to complain about the discrimination but eHarmony refused to change its policies.
Carlson stated that the site only allowed men to find women and women to find men, which she construed as discriminatory. She stated: “Such outright discrimination is hurtful and disappointing for a business open to the public in this day and age.”
The lawsuit is seeking class action status, and names the dating site eHarmony, the founder of the site, Neil Clark Warren, and the former vice president of the company as defendants.
