Bobby Dale Earnhardt, a member of the notorious Earnhardt racing family, is facing DUI chargers after being pulled over on Tuesday, in the Charleston, West Virginia area. Bobby Dale is the nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his grandfather is NASCAR Hall of Fame member Dale Earnhardt Sr. Bobby Dale aspires to follow in the family’s footsteps. In fact, he recently relocated from Rockingham, North Carolina to Charleston to gain some driving experience so he could eventually compete in NASCAR races. His website states that he will be competing in the 2013 ARCA Truck Series.
According to the Charleston Police, Earnhardt was pulled over just prior to midnight after he was exhibiting some erratic driving and made a wide turn. The officer could smell alcohol and observed that he had slurred speech and glassy eyes. Earnhardt told the arresting officer that he had only consumed 2 shots. He failed a field sobriety test and after he was arrested, it was determined that his blood alcohol registered .193, over double the legal limit. He was kept overnight in jail and after his arraignment the following morning, he was released. Since this was his first DUI offense, the charges fall in the category of a misdemeanor. If convicted, he could be sentenced to six months and up to a $500 fine.
Bobby Dale has since sent out apologies to his fans, friends, and family. He made a statement on his facebook page admitting that he made a terrible mistake by driving under the influence and was thankful that nobody was injured due to his stupidity and realizes something terrible could have happened. He apologized for letting down family, friends, and fans and hoped to make it up to everyone by being a good future role model. He also stated he plans on moving on in his career and hopes he can have everyone’s support.
