The owner of a leisure firm has said that he plans to appeal against a multimillion dollar judgement that was awarded to a woman that filed a lawsuit against the company. Milton McGregor , the owner and operator of VictoryLand, said that there is no question that he will be fighting the award.
The lawsuit was filed by Sherry Knowles two years ago, after she claimed that VictoryLand had failed to pay out on a win from a bingo machine. She filed the lawsuit against Macon County Greyhound Park, which operates as VictoryLand.
Knowles claims that she won on the machine and it came up with forty one million credits. However, although she had witnesses, the owner said that it was a machine malfunction, and refused to pay out the money. After filing a lawsuit Knowles was awarded ten million dollars.
McGregor said: “I wouldn’t be making any large purchases based on this ruling if I were them. This is just round one. You bet we are going to appeal. Something like this shouldn’t happen in America. This is the most one-sided, wrong thing I’ve ever seen.”
