Man Charged Over Deaths of Bison

A man has been charged following the deaths of thirty two bison that wandered from their ranch. Jeff Hawn, a software developer, apparently warned his neighbour to keep the animals off his property, stating that the animals were causing damage and leaving mess everywhere.
However, according to reports the developer sent letters out to fourteen hunters giving them permission to hunt bison on his property, and as a result thirty two of the animals met their death. The remains of the bison were found on Hawn’s land and in surrounding areas.
Hawn is the president and CEO of Seattle-based Attachmate, and he is now facing court proceedings where he will face charges of animal cruelty and theft as a result of the shootings, which took place earlier this year in March.
One attorney working for Hawn said that he had no other choice but to get rid of the bison to protect himself. Officials believe that whilst Hawn invited hunters to track down the bison on his land he may also have shot some of the animals himself.
