According to recent reports lawsuits that were filed by the families of two football players that were killed in 2005 have been settled. The two players, Darrell Russell of Santa Monica and Michael Paul Bastianelli, died in December 2005 after the borrowed car that they were in crashed into a parked MTA bus.
The lawsuits were filed by the surviving family members of the two football players against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Police have said that the borrowed car was being driven by one of the players, Bastianelli, who had borrowed the vehicle from another player.
The trial had originally been scheduled to being at the end of October. However, reports suggest that the Russell case has been settled subject to conditions, although it will not be finalised until January.
The lawsuit alleged that the driver of the MTA bus has negligently parked the vehicle in a no parking zone whilst she went and had her coffee break. The lawsuits were also originally filed against the city, but this part of the lawsuit was dropped by the plaintiffs.
