A lawsuit has recently been filed against a Fond du Lac medical clinic, which has been accused of discriminating against a woman that is HIV Positive. The lawsuit was filed by an advocacy group that supports people with HIV, and it claims that the clinic refused to operate on the woman because she was HIV Positive.
The lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court in Milwaukee by the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. The defendants that have been named in the lawsuit are Dr. Steven M. Cahee, Agnesian HealthCare Inc. and Fond du Lac Regional Clinic.
Thirty five year old Melody Rose needed to have gallbladder surgery carried out, but according to the lawsuit the clinic would not carry out the operation because of the woman’s illness. The lawsuit states that federal and state laws were violated as a result of this refusal to perform the surgery required.
The woman was an inmate at the state prison in Fond du Lac when she was referred to the clinic to have the gallbladder operation carried out according to reports.
