According to recent reports a lawsuit has been filed against Petland over the sale of sickly dogs to customers. The lawsuit was filed recently by the Humane Society of the United States and involved several plaintiffs who had purchased dogs from Petland that had then found to have had health problems or even gone on to die.
The class action lawsuit was filed following an investigation of Petland, which lasted for eight months. The investigation was carried out be the Humane Society of the United States, and as part of the investigation over twenty Petland stores were visited as well as many breeders and brokers that had sold puppies to Petland.
The investigation also involved tracking over seventeen hundred puppies that came from over seventy five different Petland stores. An official from the Humane Society said: “We found that Petland was one of the largest retail sellers of puppy mill dogs in the country. After we broke that, that’s when all the consumers started contacting us, telling us their stories.”
However, Petland described the Humane Society as a ‘radical animal rights group’ and said: “This is a continuing public relations campaign to smear the good name of Petland and to increase HSUS donations by utilizing sensationalized media and legal attacks.”
