A prison inmate has filed a lawsuit stating that prison staff did not do enough to stop him from breaking out. The inmate escaped from the Pueblo County jail on two occasions, and has now filed a federal lawsuit. He claims that guards at the prison abused him as well as failing to stop him from escaping from the prison.
The inmate, Scott Anthony Gomez Jr, states in his complaint that guards from the prison got other inmates to assault him and bear him up, as well as assaulting him themselves using items such as pepper spray and stun guns. He also claims to have been kicked and beaten by guards and prisoners that he claims were told to beat him by guards.
Gomez stated that it was easy to escape from the jail, and stated that after he was captured two days after his last escape no action was taken to improve security at the jail. He claimed that it was easy to escape through ceiling tiles, and that the cell doors in the maximum security wing could be opened easily.
The lawsuit goes on to state that the authorities “did next to nothing to ensure that the jail was secure and that the Plaintiff could not escape.” Unspecified damages are being sought.
