A gender discrimination lawsuit has been filed after a woman was ejected from a ladies’ bathroom by a bouncer that refused to believe that she was actually a woman. The twenty eight year old woman, Khadijah Farmer, from Hell’s Kitchen, left the table to go to the women’s room at the Caliente Cab restaurant in the West Village following June’s Gay Pride Parade.
According to reports when she left the table and went into the women’s room a male bouncer came chasing in after her and burst into the room. She claims that the bouncer told her that she had to leave both the bathroom and the restaurant because there had been complaints that there was a man in the women’s restroom.
The plaintiff stated: “He began pounding on the stall door saying someone had complained that there was a man inside the women’s bathroom, that I had to leave the bathroom and the restaurant. Inside the stall door, I could see him. That horrified me, and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable. ”
She added: “I said to him, ‘I’m a female, and I’m supposed to be in here.’ After I came out of the bathroom stall, I attempted to show him my ID to show him that I was in the right place, and he just refused to look at my identification. His exact words were, ‘Your ID is neither here nor there,’ which means that my ID didn’t matter to him.”
