A bank teller that was refused worker’s compensation and later fired after being held at gunpoint during a robbery is suing Regions Financial Corp, accusing the company of outrageous conduct. The lawsuit was filed in Jefferson County Circuit Court earlier this week by former bank teller Angela Whitfield.
According to reports Angela had worked as a bank teller for over sixteen years. The robbery at which she was held at gunpoint took place in June of last year at the AmSouth Inverness Branch. A former Samford University football player, Michael Hall, pleaded guilty to the robbery, and received three months in federal prison.
The lawsuit claims that Whitfield was injured when she was grabbed and forced to the station by the robber, and then had the gun pressed against her head. She was also diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder as a result of the incident.
The lawsuit goes on to state that Regions Financial Corp interfered with the plaintiff’s treatment by refusing to pay for her to see her own psychologist. The papers also state that Whitfield was fired despite having received a number of promotions and raises since she started working at the bank in 1991.
