Fifty Million Dollar Lawsuit Filed over Shooting

Posted:

A fifty million dollar lawsuit has recently been filed by the family of a man who was killed by a former transit police officer. The shooting occurred on New Year’s Day and the lawsuit has been filed against the officers that were involved in the shooting.

The family’s attorney originally asked for twenty five million dollars in the initial filing, which was just half of the amount that the family is now seeking. The lawsuit has been filed against the officers claiming the wrongful death of Oscar Grant III, who was aged twenty two at the time.

The lawyer said that the amount being sought in the lawsuit was doubled after he learned more about the shooting, which took place on a platform of a Bay Area Rapid Transit train station. The lawyer said: “It is the most outrageous shooting, police-misconduct case I have ever been involved in.”

The report claims that low quality footage of the shooting was circulated online, after being taken on a cell phone by a bystander. It apparently showed one office kneeling on the man, and another another pulling his gun and shooting the twenty two year old in the back.
