The family of a murdered UW University student has filed a lawsuit over security issues at the former student’s Madison apartment. Brittany Zimmerman was killed earlier this year in April, and the family now claims that there were security issues at her apartment.
According to the lawsuit the student’s fiancé had raised the issues about lack of security at the apartment on a number of occasions, but nothing was done to rectify the situation. The apartment building where she lived was off campus.
Complaints had been made about the lack of locks and door security at the apartment before the student was found murdered, according to the lawsuit. The defendants named in the lawsuit are the building owners, Wisconsin Management Company Inc. and its insurer General Casualty.
The family had previously filed a lawsuit over the incident against Dane County and its 911 dispatch centre over response times, but this was withdrawn by the family’s lawyer.
