City Settles Former Employee Lawsuit

According to a recent report the city of Watertown has settled a lawsuit that was filed by a former employee who was claiming to be the victim of sex and age discrimination. The lawsuit was filed by former city employee Judith Herzog, but was settled earlier this week.

According to the lawsuit Herzog had been passed over for a job after being described by an interviewer as being ‘older’. The jury in the original trial found the city guilty of sex and age discrimination, stating that the plaintiff was passed over for the job because of her sex and age.

The city had appealed against the original ruling, but decided to settle the lawsuit before appeal arguments were even heard, according to the report. She was awarded over six hundred and sixty thousand dollars as part of the settlement.

Despite the settlement the mayor, Ron Krueger, has stated that the reason that the former worker was passed over for the job was because she did not interview as well as other candidates. The settlement terms also stop her from applying for other jobs with the city in the future.
