Chinese Court Refuses to Accept Lawsuit

According to a recent report a Chinese court has refused to accept a lawsuit relating to tainted milk that is thought to have made many children ill and even caused fatalities. The lawsuit was being filed against a Chinese dairy, with dozens of parents claiming that the milk made their children ill and in a couple of cases even resulted in death.
This is thought to be the first known class action suit stemming from this incident, with sixty three defendants involved in the suit. In total the defendants are seeking the equivalent of around two million dollars by way of compensation from the diary, which is the state-owned Sanlu Group Co.

The lawsuit was presented at the Hebei Supreme Court’s registry office but according to reports the court would not accept the lawsuit, stating that it still had to carry out investigations into the situation. One lawyer involved said: “We think it was their excuse for not accepting the case. We will continue to push the case and give them pressure.”

It is claimed that around three hundred thousand babies became ill after drinking infant formula that contained traces of melamine, and two babies are said to have died as a result.
