The acting police chief in West Newbury has filed a lawsuit against the former police chief claiming that she was discriminated against, humiliated in front of other officers, was often at the center of sexually inappropriate jokes, and had her civil rights violated.
Lisa Holmes has filed the lawsuit against the former police chief in West Newbury, Jonathan Dennis. Holmes also named Selectmen in her lawsuit, who she claims failed to investigate her complaints about this inappropriate behavior and treatment. Holmes is seeking over eighteen thousand dollars in legal fees and two and a half thousand dollars in lost wages for not being promoted to the role of lieutenant.
The lawsuit was filed in Salem Superior Court. Selectmen are still deciding on a permanent replacement for Dennis as police chief, and Holmes is one of the candidates. The lawsuit details a range of incidents where Dennis is said to have behaved inappropriately, including an incident where he is said to have falsely claimed that Holmes was not interested in being promoted to Selectmen, who asked was Holmes had not been promoted to lieutenant.
